Hello, this is the official blog of GSA (Global Standard Air/Gas), a leader in compressed air treatment solutions.
As we approach mid-December and the end of 2025, looking back at this year’s highlights brings a truly proud moment to mind. Specifically, in August 2025, our large-scale water-cooled refrigerated air dryer, the HYD-900WN model, was successfully delivered to a major tuna processing plant in the United States!
This delivery is a prime example of GSA’s technological prowess shining on the global stage, and today, I’d like to share the details with you. I’ll keep the explanation simple so that everyone—from those interested in compressed air treatment to industrial equipment beginners—can easily follow along.
First, let’s explain what a refrigerated air dryer is, in simple terms for beginners. Imagine this: an air compressor powerfully compresses air to create high-pressure air. However, during this process, the air heats up, causing a significant amount of moisture (humidity) to build up within it—much like how we sweat on a hot summer day! Using this humid compressed air directly in factory machinery or production lines can lead to serious issues. Water accumulation can clog or corrode pipes, cause tools to malfunction, and in the worst-case scenario, seep into products and compromise quality. This can be especially critical in industries like food processing, where hygiene is the top priority.
This is where the refrigerated air dryer comes in! Think of it as working similarly to your refrigerator or air conditioner at home. It rapidly cools down hot, humid compressed air using refrigerants—special gases like R-134a or R-407C. As the air cools, the moisture turns into water droplets (condensation) and falls away. This water is automatically drained out, and the remaining air is reheated to a suitable temperature before being supplied to the production site in a “clean and dry” state.
Ultimately, it dramatically reduces the humidity of the air. In technical terms, it maintains a “Pressure Dew Point” of about 2 to 10°C, which means the air is in a nearly bone-dry state. Thanks to this process, factory equipment lasts longer, production efficiency increases, and you even save on energy costs. GSA’s products are exceptionally stable and eco-friendly, powered by high-efficiency heat exchangers and smart control systems. To all our beginners out there, does that make sense? In short, it’s both a “moisture remover” and a “guardian of air quality” for your compressed air!
Now, let’s dive into the details of this delivery story. The partner company is a world-renowned brand in the food industry, operating massive production lines where fresh tuna is washed, cut, heated, and sealed into each tuna can. At the heart of this U.S. factory is a powerful 900HP (approx. 670 kW) air compressor. This giant machine discharges an incredible volume of compressed air—roughly 4,000 to 5,000 m³/h—every single hour. However, moisture was a major headache for them. In tuna processing, compressed air powers everything from washing nozzles to packaging machines and conveyor belts. If there is too much moisture, water can seep into the tuna, increasing the risk of spoilage and potentially violating strict FDA hygiene standards. Furthermore, because the factory is located on an island surrounded by the sea, the environment is extremely hot and humid. In such a challenging setting, if the refrigerated air dryer fails to perform, it could lead to a complete production shutdown.
It was no coincidence that the client chose GSA. The partnership began in 2024 when a facility inspection expert, responsible for auditing plant equipment and recommending improvements, suggested our products to the company.
The client’s requirements were precise and demanding. They needed a high-capacity solution capable of handling the massive output of a 900HP compressor, a water-cooled system to ensure stable cooling in extreme environments, and, most importantly, the supply of food-grade clean compressed air to support their tuna processing operations.
Since GSA is a company that also manufactures high-capacity dryers for turbo compressors, processing 900HP of compressed air was no challenge at all. The HYD-900WN model is part of GSA’s flagship line, with its water-cooled design being the key feature. Unlike air-cooled systems that rely on fans, this water-cooled method provides superior heat dissipation even in high-temperature environments, all while operating with significantly less noise.
After completing final assembly and rigorous quality inspections in mid-July 2025, the unit was shipped via ocean freight and arrived at the U.S. factory on the island around mid-August. As soon as the refrigerated air dryer cleared customs and reached the site, the local facility team completed the delivery and installation with remarkable speed.
Finally, on September 23, 2025, the commissioning team dispatched from GSA arrived at the site. After a thorough review and fine-tuning to ensure the installation was flawless, the trial run was successfully completed. The cooling water supply was consistent, and the electrical connections to the dryer were perfectly secured. The moment the “Start” button on the digital touch panel was pressed, the refrigerated air dryer began its smooth operation.
It was confirmed that the moisture within the compressed air was being perfectly removed, with the separated water smoothly discharging as condensate through the drain trap. Watching the system perform flawlessly, the faces of the local facility staff—who had been anxious about whether the dryer would operate well in such a harsh environment—finally lit up with bright smiles.
Let’s take a closer look at the detailed specifications of the HYD-900WN.
(Based on GSA standard specifications; customizable options are available to meet specific client needs.)
Thanks to its operational stability and high performance, the HYD-900WN truly shines in large-scale industrial facilities.
